Is this "project" still alive?
What are the legalities? (Perhaps this has been discussed previously?)
I can't imagine JMS or WB being too upset if a few fans get involved and upgrade the CGI or run the audio through a subharmonic synthesizer / eq., for the pleasure of a few people on a website. But, what about a more public demonstration, such as in the "high end" section of the Consumer Electronics Show? (I'd actually think JMS might give such a project his blessing, though if I was him, I think I'd want the right to review it before such a "release"!) If such a segment was run in one small demo room capable of seating 20 people, and you run the demo once every 10 minutes, then you have (roughly) 3.5 days x 8 hours per day X 6 demos per hour X 20 viewers per demo = 3360 "WOW!'d" viewers. And if they like it, a lot of these people could be encouraged to get a free (or at least, "at cost") copy of the segment to take back to their stores, etc. IF JMS / WB would allow it. (Actually, I don't think JMS / WB would prevent someone from playing a legally purchased DVD at such a show, and running it through some audio / video processing at the time of play. But, redoing the CGI, and / or providing free "demo disks" is another matter. Still, you don't really want to run the original video through a big plasma screen, I suspect...)
Others here surely know a lot more about the legalities, than I do, which is why I am asking!
Over on the "bad behavior" thread, the point has been made that other than the RPG (and other?) game(s?), there is not much new in the B5 universe, or on this forum. Therefor, interest in B5, and this forum, wanes. But, there is a very large potential audience that was never touched, and another (youngsters) that has never been approached. B5, at it's core, is simply superior to most of the TV of it's time, and certainly superior to almost all current TV. The question, it seems to me, is how to find and attract a new audience. Spiffing up the audio / video of the battle scene in Severed Dreams (for example), and presenting it to the right groups, could be quite effective, I believe. Maybe JMS would agree?
