THE PAK´MA´RA
Pak'Ma'Ra civilization has existed for about 2,000 years and changed very little until their first contact with alien races. Upon making contact with aliens, the Pak'Ma'Ra received a serious, life altering change to their view of the galaxy which they had beleived they were the center of. Faced with a massive influx of new ideas, few of which they could grasp, the Pak'Ma'Ra became immensely curious about the different races, cultures and ideas to be found among the stars. After long debate during the Pak'Ma'Ra's annual 5 year meeting on their home world of Melat, the Pak'Ma'Ra decided to discover all they could of the fascination universe that lay beyond their home system. Tens of thousands of Pak'Ma'Ra left their home world and went out into the curious universe they had been introduced to them. Pak'Ma'Ra's goal appears to simply observe other races and gather new ideas with which to share with the whole of Pak'Ma'Ra society. When the other races first contacted the Pak'Ma'Ra they found they were never talk to the same leader twice, as the term "leader" meant nothing to the Pak'Ma'Ra. Anyone who wishes can speak for the entire race, since Pak'Ma'Ra believe that everyone is the same and different. No representative of the Pak'Ma'Ra can speak for ALL Pak'Ma'Ra, until whatever treaty or goal being discussed it debated among all Pak'Ma'Ra however. Still, many governments pieced together deals with specific groupings among the Pak'Ma'Ra that passed for treaties, which other groups of Pak'Ma'Ra would honor. As not all groups would honor these agreements however, many powers like the Earth Alliance choose to conduct their negociatoins during the Pak'Ma'Ra's annual 5 year meetings. There is no marriage in Pak'Ma'Ra society, only "thought mates" which can be either male or female and, in the end, are little more than close friends. Typically Pak'Ma'Ra led singular, isolated existences. Having only possessed Interstellar flight for some 80 years, the Pak'Ma'Ra are not very advanced technologically. Much of their space fleet consists of old starships purchased from the Drazi. Pak'Ma'Ra technology is very advanced however, a crystalline-based system similar to Centauri and Minbari power sources. This is probably due to the fact that these two races were two of the first the Pak'Ma'Ra had relations with. The Pak'Ma'Ra concentrates the bulk of their technology on transportation and communication - to go to other world and share their knowledge with other Pak'Ma'Ra. Many races question exactly what the Pak'Ma'Ra's ultimate goal is. They've made it clear they are trying to learn about all the other races but when pressed for information as to why they are all doing reseach no response has been forthcoming. This has lead some to suspect that the Pak'Ma'Ra are waiting, listening, preparting for the day when they will agian become the center of the universe... by going to war with the other races in the cosmos. |
