SHIELDS AND WEAPONS
OF THE SHADOWS & VORLONS

WEAPONS - SHIELDS & ARMOR - CONCLUSSION

SHIELD

3.) CONCLUSSION

Events throughout the whole of the "Babylon 5" series suggests that Shadow Weapons and, by their extension Vorlon weapons, have a destructive output ranging between the hundreds of thousands and million of Terawatts. This assertion is born by the destructive output of Shadow weapons as seen in many episodes, including the Shadow attack on the Narn outpost in Quadrant 37 in "Chrysalis," and their attack on the Narn colony in Quadrant 14 during "The Coming of Shadows." We also garnered more weapon output information derived from the destruction of the Narn fleet in "The Long Twilight Struggle."

The episodes "Interludes and Examinations," and "War Without End Pt. 1" went a long way into providing visual evidence with regards to shield/armor limits on Shadow and Vorlons ships. Review of these episodes did provide some visual evidence suggesting the presence of some type of energy dispersion field in use, as referred to in cannon dialogue by Lennier and seen visually in use on the Whitestar in "War Without End" and before that on the Vorlon Star Dreadnought in "Interludes and Examinations."

Careful review of the reaction of a Shadow Battle Crab to a 500+ megaton nuclear detonation showed the Battle Crab turning and moving away from the detonation, disproving the erroneous belief that the Battle Crab had been destroyed by that weapon. Close inspection of the debris field further supported other visual evidence that the Shadow Battle Crab definitely survived as the debris field was not comprised of the remnants of a Shadow capital ship, but were in fact the remnants of only scout and fighter class Shadow vessels.

Ineffective use of 500+ megaton nuclear devices in "Into the Fire" demonstrated that Vorlon and Shadow vessels were able to shrug off no less than 1.37*10^18 joules of energy and radiation across their hulls and the length of the battle along with blow-for-blow visual evidence seen in "Interludes and Examinations" provides speculative evidence that Vorlon and Shadow vessels might also be able to survive sustained combat and absorb weapons fire within the range of multiple gigatons.
